Apart from displaying a selection of lifelike figures of Thai and international personages and famous Buddhist monks, Siam Cultural Park collects Thai artistic works, cultural relics, and beautiful articles showing local Buddhists’ ways of life and stores them for posterity. King Rama II Memorial Park was established on 4.4 acres of land to commemorate King Rama II’s great patronage of Thai arts and culture. The park area is significant in that it was the birthplace of the King. Interesting features of the park are four Thai style buildings exhibiting art objects in the early Rattanakosin period and expressing ways of life of the Thais who lived during the reign of the King.

Other attractions are  “Ho Klang” (main hall) housing the King’s statue and ancient artefacts, “Ho Non Chai” (men dorm) and “Ho Non Ying” (women dorm) depicting lifestyle of men and women living in that era, “Chan Ruen” (the corridor of the middle class’ Thai style house) arranging in the ancient style with kitchen and bathroom.

In addition, there are an outdoor theatre, botanical garden with various species of flowers mentioned in Thai literatures and souvenir shops selling local products and fruits at the parking and riverside areas.

Thai name พระราชวังบางปะอิน

This summer palace was first built in the reign of King Prasat Thong (1629-1656) in the Ayutthaya period. It was frequented by the king and his successors until the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767.

Later on, the palace was restored by King Rama IV (1851-1868). But it was not until the reign of King Rama V (1868-1910), that Bang Pa-in Palace was fully developed and took its present shape. During his reign, several magnificent buildings in the Western style were constructed, such as Utthayan Phumisathian and Warophat Phiman Mansions. Also, the two-storeyed Chinese-style palace, Wehat Chamrun, was built and presented to the King in 1889 by Chinese merchants as a token of the long-lasting brotherly relationship between the Thai and Chinese peoples.

Plenty of lush trees, beautifully arranged gardens and cool breeze made the surroundings ideal for a stroll. But for those who do not want to walk, carts for rent are available.
